Project North Star
Building on the concept that better education can lead to better jobs and better jobs can lead to better health, Project North Star provides
interested and qualified adults with a scholarship to study to become a Community Health Worker and to receive a paid internship after
completion of the program.
The 9-month college-level Community Health Work (CHW) Navigator certification program is a state-developed program which Normandale Community College has adapted to fit the schedule of adult students who work full-time. In addition, the coursework has enhanced
content to focus on key issues in underserved communities.
Through partnerships with non-profits in neighborhoods where the aspiring Community Health Workers live, CBT provides Project North
Star participants with opportunities to apply their skills in the communities in which they live. For example, they can deliver patient education materials to community members who have health needs and could benefit from that information.
