Through Project North Star, Community Building Together helps students in underserved neighborhoods earn certification as Community Health Workers (CHW). From there, they move into college internships, CHW jobs and, ultimately, to roles where they can come full circle, and help lead their own communities to a healthier place. For the internship phase, we are collaborating with Medtronic Innovation Lab, to bring together three community partners in two collaborative workshop sessions with one overriding goal: to define a scalable and repeatable college internship program for CHW’s in Minnesota. Using insights from CHW interviews, the teams listen to members of the community to identify unmet needs and expectations and collaborate in defining a program structure that is beneficial to students, employers and community-based organizations with whom we partner.
